7/10: good

This is the most original game I have ever played since...well who cares! I think this is so unique because of it's style and game concept. At times it got intense because I was constantly on the look out. When I found one of the evils souls, I had to quickly pull out my holy rifle and tell myself...wait for it...wait for it. It was really enjoyable and refreshing to play! It's one of kind because I've never seen a game done before just with actually drawn characters on paper instead of on the comp. Though not the best I've drawings I've seen, but the gameplay more then makes up for it. It was challenging, but not too challenging at the same time...in other words, perfectly equal amount of difficulty. I was dissapointed to find that the game was over, after I beat it in 1 try, and found that the game consisits of the 1 concert. It would be cool to see a sequel done on this, but with more areas, more bosses, and better drawings. For example you can add a city intersection as a level. Though I should forwarn you, if you make a sequel, not only should you add what I've alreay mentioned, but also some more gameplay depth. Basically, add more variety to what you already have. I don't know exactly what, but if you did, it would keep it's appeal. Liked the style of the deamons hiding in human forms especailly! This game does so many things right and should deserve some attention. YOU HERE ME NEWGROUNDS!!! Put this title on homepage, give it 4 awards, and have it make it into the top 50! It really deserves it!

Keep the sniping, but it wouldn't hurt to add more action and weapons into the mix (the sequel if one).
kudos,

7.2/10: good

Though it was prolouge, it was pretty good. I liked the stlye of time sentive button presses to achieve a certain task. I think what you have here is really intriguing, but hopefully in the next one you can add more depth and vairety to gameplay. Though why did the main character wear sneakers w/o socks? Maybe it's just me, but I find that a little awkard and it made me laugh. Also the voicework could of used a little work and animation because the main character looked like a robot when talking with a wierd look on his face...lol...I know it probably wasn't done intentionally, but you should have it fixed.

4.4/10: bad

There is some problems with the demo. 1st off, since this is only a demo I can pretty much assume that it will be a lot better in the final version, but as this is a submission, I'm going to review it based as it is. Through the 3 levels of gameplay, 1 of them only works. At times the controls were unresponsive resulting in frustrating deaths. At one time Jak couldn't double jump and other times he wouldn't grab on to the poles. The camera most of time was jerky and Jak himself looked awkard while running because it seems his feet aren't quite on the ground when at slopes and angles. I liked the use of dark jak, but didn't really feel the need to use it since there was only 1 enemy type that was pretty easily killed by using normal punches. Also there were the lack of guns to be used from what I've plaed, but that is probably because I can't get through the rest of the level because of the glitches. It also sucks when you can only play it on the lowest quality setting for best playing quality, despite how my computer is really powerfull? I hope you will address these issues before the final version comes out. I hope there will be more enemies, bosses, guns, vehicles, alter egos (dark & light), difficulty, and no glitches. Is there really going to be 42 levels?! You're demo, despite being imperfect, had good presnetation of what's to come. If you do it right and make it good, it will be a huge and successful hit on Newgrounds.

I hope you don't respond with saying that was me and not the demo having problems,

The-Mercenary responds:

Sorry about the controls, thats something I cannot fix cause there is only so much I can do by code. The reason why you couldnt double jump is because you arnt able to when you are falling back from your jump, I might have to re-think that. The poles is what I'm having the most trouble with, I tried to make it so that you'll grab on automatically but Some of the poles send you off screen when you try to grab, or they mess everything up and make it glitchier. The current levels I had required no use for the guns, it was just so you can play around if you wanted to, but some levels will require guns. My PC is also fast, but Due to the amount of layers of stuf, and not to mention it has to run like a 1000 lines of code 25 times a second, it has it does slow down, some levels have less stuff (Thats why some run faster than others). Dont worry about the other stuff, I will have a good amount of different enemies, the boss fights will be unique, Light jak is required to pass certain levels and dark jak is for getting around quicker, I'll have to think about other stuff to do with him, And yes the final game will have 40 or 50 levels, I already have about 20 finished, Its just a matter of how much space there will be, currently the game with 20 levels is only 1500kb so I think I'm good on the amount of levels. I'm still surprised you had so many problems though, and that slope thing can be easily fixed.

6/10 playing: okay

I think that the Warhammer 40000 unizerse is really intresting and a whole lot better then starcraft. Though I don't know anything about it or haven't played the game of it. The playstation 2 game, not the dorky mini figures of it. liked how there was quite a variety of weapons, despit how they were only predetermend, and that most of them were rifles. Wish I could of used the shotgun and flamthrower more...hehe...It was cool to actually see some unique damage when you hit a apponet in a certain spot, aka hit points. The difficulty didn't seem to have any effect since I beat the game in one try and the graphics, with animtion, could of been a whole lot better. I reccomend that next time, take the time, to make it look pleasing to the eye. Also it wouldn't hurt to have more damage effects with the characters, look at Divine Intervention for example, and more interaction with the enviroment. More then glass shattering and barrels exploding. I like how you can chose what weapon to go with what mission, which whould be needed, and more then 4 levels of gameplay. I know flash has it's limits, but it would be cool to see a moving 1st person shooter, like Bleed, or if not then a side scroller shooter, like Aien Homind without all the platforming. I've seen countless 1st person shooters were you stand you're ground for all of 1 level and shoot countless pop up enemies. So I have no choice, but to...

Just try to improve on what I said and it will be a shure hit! If not, don't expect a higher and if not a lower score then this.

SeedyKay responds:

Try the original warhammer shooter in my other submissions shooter, which has a couple of side scrolling levels. It's not as good, but whatever you like.
And you completed it first try! It took me loads of attempts, and i made the damn thing! Well done!

5.5/10 playing: medicore

Nice little concept you got there with the cloud and evaporation. Also liked how you changed the pace of things with the toxic waste. The game seemed a little bit simplistic, yet oddly fun. Though it was poornly drawn and loses appeal easily.

10/10: perfection incarnate

I'm glad you did a sequel finally! I liked the multiple outcomings you can chose and with the additonal minigames make this perfect. It's obvious you put alot of work into it and would be nice to see you on homepage or at least geat a few awards. I like how you took grand theft auto and mixed it up with south park for style. Though it seemed short, it does have replay value and it makes me want to strive for a better score. Sorry that you're dog died...

8/10 playing: great

It's not to shabby...I just wish that you can save it, download it, listen to it whenever! The locals weren't that great and I didn't even use them at all, seemed out of placed you know. I liked the beats and variety of music you can create...I've come up with 3 good ones...seemed very remeniscent of 70's music just with the waka waka waka...if you know what I mean. Hopefully you can make another one with more vairity and the features that me and some others want. Since it didn't have some of the stuff I wanted, it kept me entertained for 5 min.
short, but sweet...

FRUSTRATING:
I'm glad you did a game with a rich atmosphere, but Silent Hill...this is not. It's creepy, but not as scary or unerving as Silent Hill. When it gets to the point were I have no idea were I'm going and have to visit your site for the faq, it takes away from the immersion of the game you do realize. You should have had a difficlut setting for the puzzles, though I'm not great at them, so people like me and others can enjoy it instead of the hardcore puzzlers. Also systematically scrawling the mouse over the screen to just find that one oblivous spot that will clue me in frustrates me even more. Also your idea of scary isn't that original. Blood spots everywere, voices whispering, creature with a spastic head, door creaking, random misconsruted body limbs and parts everywhere...I've already seen this before. Next time try to make your scare factor more original, still keep the moody atmosphere. Just look at Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, The Ring, and soon to be Saw in theaters for examples. They are all original horror movies and games that have shooken me down to the core of my soul. I like to be scared and would want more horror more from you, a movie would be nice.

I'm actually quite honoured that people are constantly comparing my work to Silent Hill. I mean - come on people, Silent Hill shits all over Exmortis!

Konami who produced Silent Hill (correct me if I am wrong on that fact) had how many millions of dollars to produce that game over how many months? Exmortis - $0 budget, my first flash game, and only my spare time to create this. People! Stop comparing this to Silent Hill! There is no way that I can live up to that kind of comparison. Please also keep in mind that this is a flash game - so there are a lot of restrictions to gameplay here... :) But really, I am honoured by the numerous comparisons.

Anyone here from a big gaming company requiring an Aussie's services? ;)

I love anything that has to do with zombies, but this however...I did not. The game seemeed way to shallow and lacked any real depth to it. It was short and easy, despite which ever difficulty you chose. It's a mindless shooter, despit how some are fun, that at least isn't appealing. I did like the background music and how the zombies made a nice splurch when killed. Try to at least make it harder, longer, and most importantly of all...fun and addictive. Just take some hits from some of the best shooters on this site for example.

PS: the zombies didn't look as much as a monster, but more of a fetus.

RECCOMENDATIONS:
Since this only a demo, I wouldn't expect a lot of good reviews. Loved the camera perspective, but hated how characters looked like dots. It would be cooler if you made the screen bigger and the characters too. Also have the camera at a 3/4 ratio perspective so it's not necessarilly a side scroller or a birds eye view. It would be nice to see some execution moves because thats what makes Manhunter, Manhunter instead of Splinter Cell. I'm hoping the game is alot better because this didn't show much promise.

PS: as a flash artist, it would be nice if you tell me how you did that static effect, thanks!
